The farm had duck eggs again this past weekend! Fattier = yummier! And I adore that there is a feather still stuck to one.

I love photographing people, but I also adore photographing Things. I will settle down next to any pretty item (an egg, a snow globe, a coffee mug) in my home and just take photos of it from different angles. It’s nice having complete control and not having to get anyone’s attention sometimes–I usually get put on “details” duty at weddings as well. I really adore the little things. And I would love to start sharing that area of my art here as well.
This is a charm necklace from Etsy, based on The Hunger Games books. Now I am all ready for the midnight movie in March! I have a new shirt as well. Nerd Alert!

You can read all about this event over at The Paleo Parents’ blog, but I wanted to share a few of my favorite shots from this fun and joyous event!

I love fall, but we seem to be surrounded by coniferous trees, so I laid her down under the one tiny tree that changes color. Now it looks like fall!

Time for my token two photos from the last wedding I second shot!
I fell in LOVE with this one. I am always drawn to the flower girls– I guess because I am a child photographer!

The bride was so amazingly gorgeous!

I love film. I cannot wait until I am consistently rocking it! But it ALWAYS rocks me to the core. I get teary and sweaty when I look at each new scan. You don’t get that thrill with a CF card.
These are all Portra 400 or Ektar 100.

I got a new toy (a light meter) and told Delilah to play. Then I just shot. 36images. 2 settings. How freeing!!!
What a difference in using pro film and being (pretty) sure of my settings.
These are all straight out of the camera and scanned by my lab. No fiddling on the computer!

Sally Mann is on my mind whenever I hold my eye to a viewfinder. I adore her. Her photos make my heart soar. But my kids have very different natures than hers seem to have had. I am more apt to end up with cheesy smiles. Sometimes my daughter gives me what I want though.
I do love color a bit more than Ms. Mann does though…

I went out searching for light at “my” park tonight. I have two sessions this weekend and I wanted to look for the perfect places to put them for amazing portraits. And as I looked around I realized that my client inquiry form is all wrong. I don’t do “traditional outdoor.” I don’t want a posed family in cut grass smiling at my camera. I want to go in the long grasses and sit in the wet earth. When you have a session with me, expect to get a little messy, to have to check for ticks later, and expect to wear bug spray. I also love the sun at 7pm. I suppose I will be changing my inquiry form from “traditional outdoor” to “exploring the forest and finding the light.” I also LOVE pounding the pavement in Old Town Leesburg– for those who want to wear high heels!
I used my cell tonight to remember the places I found. My kids got muddy and I stripped them naked afterwards to look for ticks, but it was GLORIOUS to snap these with my free camera app. And using my DSLR or SLR at your session would be even better!
