My husband was one of those poor people with a six hour commute last Wednesday night. He only works in Tysons Corner. It took him six hours to go 12 miles.
So he definitely deserved the joy he got out of sledding with the three year old, yesterday. I always assume that Northern VA just does not get snow (we never really have in a long time!), so I never buy snow clothes for my kids. We were able to find some fleece at Children’s Place for Delilah to wear. Poor thing has been wanting to go outside since Wednesday–but a dress, leggings and a pea coat just would not have cut it. We could find nothing for the baby, so he and I were stuck inside. Next year, I will try and avoid a mom FAIL and buy snow pants even if the weather man says it will be 60 degrees all winter.

Getting out to take my own childrens’ photos always seems like a huge undertaking. I can’t go by myself because I need a baby wrangler (which the parent acts as on a client session), but I have no other adult to go with me because one has to stay and babysit the child I am not photographing. So before my son gets too much older, I finally took a few outdoor first birthday photos at 13 months old. I settled for my front yard. I have a few places where the suburbia of it all doesn’t show.He was much more interested in looking at daddy. But I only need mommy goggles with these–and mommy wise they are perfect!

I love when I am going about my daily life and I see my kids sit in just the perfect light. They won’t go sit where I put them, so I depend on these serendipitous moments. I got a whole photo shoot out of my son yesterday–even if he was chowing down on a cereal bar the entire time! I also got out my white balance card, so my color would be spot on. I didn’t have to edit these much at all!

Thanks for participating everyone!
I decided to let all the comments play since I was so off in my timing and didn’t even know what date was what. I let me husband run the generator and make the list so it really was totally random.
Congratulations to:
Kelli Atangan !!!

Feel free to email me at aimeee@aimeebuxtonphotography.com or I will email you later. I can’t wait to discuss your vision! (Looks like I’ll be doing a maternity shoot?)
AND: Because I hate blog posts with no photos: MY baby:

Right now, my adorable son is smiling down on me from a 24×36 gallery wrap. Before I started studying photography, I thought that an 8×10 was big. But I gain new appreciation for larger and larger prints everyday. I have the perfect spot above my mantle waiting for a 30×40 print–I just have to decide if I want a gorgeous Organic Bloom frame around it or a gallery wrap. I want to pass on this large print obsession to my clients. This is why I am giving away a 20×24–not the standard 8×10. Portraits of your children are just too valuable to sit in an envelope filled with gift prints or to sit on a disc where only people on Facebook ever see them.

This family wanted some Christmas card photos, so we braved the bitter cold, snow flurries, crying baby, runny noses, and dark light to get some fabulous portraits of the kids. I had a great time because the kids are just so cute that how could I not!? Thanks G family! I loved shooting your session!

I’m giving away a free session and a BIG print! Just fan my page, share this contest with friends and then post here that you did those things, and you’re entered! I’ll choose the winner next Saturday.
Why a 20×24? Not just an 8×10? Because I want people to see that bigger is better. 8×10 is considered a small gift print–a wall looks awesome with a large piece of art on it–why not art of your child?
**A model release is required if you win. I love to be able to share my work on my blog
**enter until midnight on January 7th.

Happy New Year! I can’t wait to photograph more awesome people this year! And I want to start right away, so I am extending my 50% off special through March 1st! You have to sign a model release to get these amazing prices.
I know it’s cold out there, so dress up your child’s outerwear with cute knits and peacoats with layers underneath. Or if you have a house with a lot of windows and pretty light, we can do it there!
Newborns can be at your house or mine. It’s a lot easier to find light for tiny babies.
